0.6.0 - Hello Again

So, um, it's been a while.

There's not really a good explanation for why I stopped working on this.  Life happened in a lot of big ways, but not interesting ways to talk about here.  There's also not a good explanation for why now to come back to it.  It seemed like the right time.

This is a big one; I wanted to get the game mostly in-shape for campaign play, which means every playbook needed to get to six moves.  There's also an entire playbook that had to get cut because it wasn't working out, and a new playbook in its place.  Refer to the changelog down below for full information.  Please enjoy! I hope this is the start of me getting this to a 1.0 that I can be proud of.

Basic Moves

  • Sync is no longer a track, but a currency.  The move Synchronize now explains how to use it.
  • Learn Their Troubles has had a question modified.  “How does the Darkness trouble your people?” has become “How does the Darkness trouble you?” which should be more flexible.
  • Help or Hinder is now a flat roll with the expectation you’ll rely on Sync to bypass it.
  • Weather the Storm now allows you to take 1-Sync with your foe.
  • Protect now has the option to give Sync to the person protected, rather than taking Sync over the person you protected.

Playbooks

  • All Playbooks: Darkest Self descriptions have been removed.  It is now up to players to decide what their Darkest Self looks like.
  • All Playbooks: Sync has been simplified to a notes section on the back of the playbook.
  • All Playbooks: The number of starting moves has been increased from two to three.
  • The Prodigy has been removed and replaced with The Shadow.  Like the Prodigy, the Shadow comes from a ruined world; their role, however, was as a sidekick to the world’s champion.  With the champion missing, the Shadow must step up to fill their shoes.
  • The Maiden is now The Weaver to incorporate the spirit of the Prodigy.
  • The Hero: Talents have been altered slightly to better fit the theming.
  • The Hero: Puzzling Inventory has been moved to The Help.
  • The Hero: A new move, Redeemer, has been added.
  • The Hero: An outline of a playbook feature, The Prophecy, has been added.
  • The Slayer: A Particular Set of Skills has become The Hero’s Walking Bestiary.
  • The Slayer: A new move, Battle Babe, has been added.
  • The Slayer: An outline of a playbook feature, Your Rival, has been added.
  • The Weaver: Confidant has been modified to fit the basic move updates from v0.5.0.
  • The Weaver: Hope from Despair has been modified so that you may mark Darkness to use Darkness moves.
  • The Weaver: A new move, No Room for Failure, has been added.
  • The Kid: Don’t Mess with My Friends now rolls +Heart instead of +Sync.
  • The Kid: A new move, Far from Home, has been added.
  • The Hermit: A new move, Teach Me, has been added.
  • The Help: A new move, We Are Fragile Things, has been added.
  • The Oaf: A new move, No More Mr. Nice Guy, has been added.

Talking with my game group about it - is Sync being a currency now mean that you pool sync together and then use it when assisting any character that helped generate sync?

Like say my guy helps Dude A and Dude B and thus has 2 sync. Could I end up using those 2 sync to help rolls with Dude A or are they still locked into whoever created that sync so I could only use one on Dude A and one on Dude B?

Sorry this took so long to reply to-- I don't check itch.io very much!  But it's the latter-- you generate Sync with specific people, and use the specific sync with the specific people.
